Week 6 — Nov 10-16: (Gen 4-26)
Genesis Summary:
Genesis opens with the Triune God creating, a good and ordered world in six days, saying “Let Us make man,” and resting on the seventh. Humanity is made in the image and likeness of God. Adam and Eve enjoy Eden but break trust by eating the forbidden fruit, bringing death and corruption into human nature and separating humanity from God. Their children, Cain and Abel, show how sin spreads when jealousy leads to murder.
As violence grows, God sends a cleansing flood, sparing only righteous Noah, his family, and the animals in the ark. After the waters recede, a rainbow seals God’s promise never to wipe out the earth that way again. People still try to claim greatness by building Babel’s tower, so God scatters languages and nations.
The story narrows to one family. God calls Abraham to leave home, promising a land, countless descendants, and global blessing. Abraham learns faith through journeys, setbacks, and the near sacrifice of Isaac. Isaac’s twin sons, Esau and Jacob, wrestle for birthright until Jacob, renamed Israel, trusts God’s promise.
Jacob’s twelve sons become the seed of a nation, yet sibling rivalry sells young Joseph into slavery in Egypt. God turns betrayal into rescue: Joseph rises to power and, during famine, saves his family and many others. Genesis ends with Israel’s clan safe in Egypt, awaiting the next chapter of God’s unfolding plan.
