Week 8 — Nov 24-30: (Gen 50, Exo 1-22)
rescue. There He reveals the divine name “I AM.” With his brother Aaron, Moses confronts Pharaoh. Ten escalating plagues show God’s power and expose Egypt’s idols. The final plague, the death of firstborn sons, passes over homes marked by lamb’s blood.
Pharaoh finally lets the people go, but soon pursues them. God parts the Red Sea, Israel crosses on dry ground, and the pursuing army is swept away. A pillar of cloud by day and fire by night guides and protects them. In the wilderness God provides water, manna, and quail, teaching trust. At Mount Sinai He meets the people with thunder and smoke, giving Ten Commandments and detailed laws that guide worship and community life. Israel vows obedience, Moses sprinkles the people with sacrificial blood, sealing the covenant between God and Israel, but soon Israel crafts a golden calf, breaking the covenant before the ink is dry. Moses intercedes, and God renews mercy. Plans for a portable sanctuary are carried out, and God’s glory fills the tabernacle, showing He now lives among His liberated people. God manifests His glory within the tabernacle, dwelling covenantally among His people.

1 | Birth of Moses (Exodus 1–2)
The Hebrews multiply, so Pharaoh enslaves them and orders baby boys killed. Moses is saved in a basket, adopted by Pharaoh’s daughter, and raised in the palace. After killing an Egyptian oppressor, he flees to Midian, where God prepares him for 40 years.
2 | Moses’ Call & Plagues (Exodus 3–12)
God speaks to Moses from a burning bush, naming Himself “I AM.” telling moses to go to Egypt and free his people. Moses and Aaron (Moses’s brother) confront Pharaoh, who refuses to let the people go. God sends ten plagues, ending with the death of the first born and the institution of Passover. Pharaoh finally lets Israel go. Then he changed his mind and decided to chase them.
3 | Red Sea Crossing & Wilderness Tests (Exodus 13–18)
God guides Israel with a cloud by day and fire by night. He parts the Red Sea; Israel crosses, Egypt’s army drowns. In the desert He gives water, manna, and quail; brings water from the rock. grants victory over Amalek; and, through Jethro’s (Moses father in law) advice, Moses sets up judges to share leadership.
4 | Ten Commandments (Exodus 19–24)
God descends on Mount Sinai in fire and smoke. He gives the Ten Commandments, moral laws, and civil instructions. Israel solemnly agrees to the covenant, sealing their commitment through blood and obedience.
5 | Tabernacle (Exodus 25–31)
God commands the construction of the Ark of the Covenant, the tabernacle, and the priestly system, establishing a dwelling place for His presence among His people. These detailed instructions lay the foundation for Israel’s worship.
6 | The Golden Calf & Second Tablets (Exodus 32–40)
While Moses is on the mountain, Israel makes a golden calf to worship. God is furious, but Moses intercedes. God forgives, renews the covenant, and tells Moses to carve new tablets, as Moses in his anger had broken the 10 commandments tablets when he saw the golden calf. When the tabernacle is finished, God’s cloud fills it.
Key Verses:
Exodus 3:14 – "And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you." – God reveals Himself as eternal, unchanging, and self-existent.
Exodus 12:13 "– And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt." – The Passover marks Israel’s deliverance, foreshadowing Jesus’ sacrifice.
Exodus 14:14 – "The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace." – God fights for His people.
Exodus 20:2-3 "– I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me." – The Ten Commandments establish God’s authority and moral law.
Exodus 33:14 – "And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest." – God assures His people of His presence and guidance.
