Exodus tells how God frees Israel from slavery and shapes them into a covenant nation. The story begins with a new Pharaoh who fears the growing Hebrews and forces them into harsh labor. God protects baby Moses, who is raised in Pharaoh’s palace yet flees after defending a fellow Hebrew. Years later, at a burning bush in the desert, God sends Moses back to Egypt with a promise of rescue. There He reveals the divine name “I AM.” With his brother Aaron, Moses confronts Pharaoh. Ten escalating plagues show God’s power and expose Egypt’s idols. The final plague, the death of firstborn sons, passes over homes marked by lamb’s blood. Pharaoh finally lets the people go, but soon pursues them. God parts the Red Sea, Israel crosses on dry ground, and the pursuing army is swept away. A pillar of cloud by day and fire by night guides and protects them. In the wilderness God provides water, manna, and quail, teaching trust. At Mount Sinai He meets the people with thunder an...

Week 6 — Nov 10-16: (Gen 4-26)

Genesis Summary: Genesis opens with the Triune God creating, a good and ordered world in six days, saying “Let Us make man,” and resting on the seventh. Humanity is made in the image and likeness of God. Adam and Eve enjoy Eden but break trust by eating the forbidden fruit, bringing death and corruption into human nature and separating humanity from God. Their children, Cain and Abel, show how sin spreads when jealousy leads to murder.  As violence grows, God sends a cleansing flood, sparing only righteous Noah, his family, and the animals in the ark. After the waters recede, a rainbow seals God’s promise never to wipe out the earth that way again. People still try to claim greatness by building Babel’s tower, so God scatters languages and nations.  The story narrows to one family. God calls Abraham to leave home, promising a land, countless descendants, and global blessing. Abraham learns faith through journeys, setbacks, and the near sacrifice of Isaa...

Acts Summary: The book of Acts opens in Jerusalem with the risen Jesus instructing the apostles for forty days and then ascending. The risen Lord promises the Holy Spirit and tells the disciples to be His witnesses. At Pentecost the Spirit comes with wind and fire, and Peter proclaims: ‘Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit … for the forgiveness of sins.’ Three thousand believe and are baptized.  They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, the breaking of bread, the prayers, and fellowship. Healing the lame man and other signs draw crowds and also stir opposition from leaders. Stephen is tried and killed, becoming the first martyr, with Saul consenting.  Persecution scatters believers, spreading the message to Samaritans and an Ethiopian official. Saul, a fierce enemy, meets the risen Jesus on the road to Damascus. He is baptized and la...
